A Depiction Of The Golden Plates In A Mormon Museum

Salt Lake City

According to the Mormons, The Golden Plates were a book of bound and engraved metal plates that Joseph Smith said were the source material for the Book of Mormon. Smith said he returned the Plates to the angel Moroni after translating them. Smith said he discovered the plates in 1823 at Cumorah drumlin south of Palmyra, New York.
