The site of an annual reenactment of the meeting of the two railroads that ultimately formed the first transcontinental railway system. In 1869 an ordinary iron spike was driven into a regular railroad tie. The original steam engines were scrapped for iron. In 1942 the old rails over the Promontory Point Summit were salvaged for war efforts.
