The deep shaddows to highlights contrast range was way beyond the capability of the human eye, let alone my camera's sensor. I took a couple of photos, one for the highlights and the other for the shadows and tried combining them in Photoshop. This was partially succesful but you can see some of the junctions between the two images. However, the subject is interesting enough to show in my album.

Defects in merging the two images were caused by shortcomings in my technique. On a tour you have very little time for each shot and I had limited gear. To do the job properly, I should have used a tripod and changed the exposure between shots via shutter speed rather than aperture.
