Idiot duck hunter

Kissimmee, FL

There were many hunters all over the lake, so we were constantly hearing shotguns go off. Often we'd go by them pretty close in their blinds before seeing them. I have nothing against hunters, because we have a mutual interest in protecting wild areas. I think there is plenty of room for everyone out there on the lake. This guy was an idiot, though. We were on the boat, minding our own business and photographing a snail kite. He comes over to us in his boat, and asks if we are shooting movies. His dog is barking the entire time. After we told him we're photographing the kite, he proceeds to lecture us on how he wished the kites were gone because the DNR manages the water levels for them which supposedly ruins his precious recreational activities. That's ridiculous because the water levels are managed for a variety of reasons, and for the kites it's only for a brief time while they're nesting to protect them from landborne predators. I said that the kite is the most endangered raptor in North America, and his response was that central Floridians may become endangered! Then he flooded his engine (serves him right) and that's when I snapped this photo. What a jerk. Imagine if we photographers took it on ourselves to go bother a hunter, interrupt what he is doing, and start lecturing him on how hunting is interfering with our photography activities, etc. How presumptuous and rude would that be! Whoever this guy is, I hope he sees this photo and realized what a moron he is.
