That's not who you think it is back there! Julenissen lives on the farms in Norway, usually in places like the hayloft. He, and his kin (the nisser), protect the farm and come out during Yuletide to eat and join the festivities. They particularly like porridge, which is left out for them as a treat, and love to play harmless practical jokes.
Julenissen pre-dates the Christian Saint Nicholas by a long time, but as with many other pre-Christian legends, his story was gradually blended with the Christian adaptation, leading to his being called "The Norwegian Santa Claus". But he's very different from the American version.
It was a lovely demonstration of the Norwegian culture, and amusingly done.
