Yellowstone National Park: Canary Spring/Mammoth Hot Springs

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

At least as of 2000, Canary Spring was one of the newer active areas at Mammoth Hot Springs. The water temperatures here are 160°F. The name Canary is in reference to the yellow filamentous algae growing along the spring's edges. The water flowing down the face of the terrace has created multi-colored bands of algae and cyanobacteria.
