I got back to our house in Metairie on Wednesday, having "hunkered down" during Gustav's march through Louisiana practically right in the path of the hurricane in New Roads, Louisiana--not too smart a move. New Roads is a charming little southern town with beautiful homes and gardens. We had no electricity.
I have no electricity in Metairie and have spent the past few days pleading with the power company. We had minimal damage in Metairie with a few gutters torn from the house and tree branches everywhere. However, my son, Chris, already has the place in tip top shape. I had to stay there because I had hopes that the electricity would come back on and I could adjust the air and the refrigerator etc.
After 7 days of heat and humidity I came to Perilloux Place this morning to cook some decent food and enjoy some air conditioning. The electrical power at Perilloux Place came on at midnight Thursday. We have minimal damage here, too, with one dormer door blown open and lots and lots of pecan and water oaks branches everywhere. Again, Chris is doing a great job of cleaning up.
I hear that Hurricane Ike is moving this way. I am not going anywhere except to one of my houses.
Evacuating on the road with a million other people and hauling cats and dogs and a recuperating husband is more than I care to tackle.
In this photo, Scott and I went into the French Quarter on Thursday to shoot photos and relax our minds. Isn't the lace ironwork on the balconies beautiful?
I have lots of photos in my camera but using my laptop with slow service is just too much at the moment.
