Figure 12 is shown much in the manner of figure 29 on block XV. He has raised one foot onto a rock and is shown tying the lace of a sandal, only the sole of which is indicated in the carving. He also wears a cloak pinned on one shoulder and a crested helmet. The pommel of a sword handle is visible just above the right elbow. Figure 11 is mounted. His horse seems to spring with all four hooves off the ground. This rider wears a crested helmet with body armour and a leather-flapped skirt over a short tunic. The front of the breast-plate is embossed with the head of the mythical Gorgon.
