For a nice diversion on the drive from Gordon to Centennial, we stopped at Vedauwoo. Vedauwoo is in the Pole Mountain section of Medicine Bow National Forest and is conveniently located right off the interstate between Laramie and Cheyenne.
The prominent feature of the area is the large boulders that are heaped in piles and look precariously perched on one another. We only had time for the short hike around Turtle Rock, a massive granite rock that attracts many rock climbers, but this would be a great area for scrambling and exploring.
The rocks may be the main attraction of Vedauwoo, but this time of year the beautiful display of wildflowers was equally impressive. We stopped often to admire a backlit black eyed susan or a colorful patch of Colorado loco, which was all just a warm up to the many flowers we'd see during our stay in Wyoming.
