Turnstone

The Turnstone is a common wader/shore bird. It is a winter migrant, its breeding areas being on rocky coasts in Scandinavia and Greenland. However it is not unusual to find non breeding birds in Scotland at any time of year. It gets it name from its habit of turning over stones while searching for food but actually it is more normal to see them turning over or raking around in seaweed or other beach detritus.
