The Rose-coloured Starling is an occasional vagrant in Scotland. Its nearest breeding grounds are in south central Asia, for example Kazakhstan. It is an eruptive species, that is, sometimes large numbers will spread out into adjacent areas. I have seen a flock of over twenty birds in Dalyan, Turkey but only on one occasion.
The adult bird in these photographs was present for several weeks in a private garden in Muirhead a part of Troon, Ayrshire which could sometimes be viewed over the garden fence.
The juvenile bird (which is not pink coloured) was present for several weeks in a private garden in Scalloway, Shetland.
