(microscelis amaurotis)
The Brown-eared Bulbul is a very common bird in Japan, one which we saw almost every day. The sub-species which occurs in Japan is the m.a. amaurotis. It is found in almost any wooded or forested habitat over a wide altitude range. In winter it also frequents urban gardens and parks and will very readily come to bird feeders. It is a very vocal species with loud, shrill and drawn-out calls.
