The Sombre Chat is endemic to Ethiopia and Somalia. It is a rather drab short tailed chat quite similar to the Blackstart which occurs in the same area. We found these birds in the debris of the lava flow on the edge of Lake Beseka - a really dangerous place to go birding in razor sharp wobbly lava boulders.
