The Abyssinian Long-eared Owl is endemic to East Africa where it is classified as uncommon to rare. It is a bird which is seldom found by birding tours ever since the bird at a well known roost site was killed by the local villagers - apparantly it ate too many chickens. We luckily turned up this one during our cultural trip to Lalibela. The security guard at our hotel knew that his friend at another hotel in the town had an owl which roosted in a big tree.
