I know this is an awful photo but after years of looking, occasionally hearing a splash or seeing a ripple in the water, today I finally saw not one but TWO OTTERS in the Endrick Water, Loch Lomond National Nature Reserve. It was VERY foggy hence the near monochrome image - honestly, this is a colour image ! Possibly the fog concealed my approach for long enough to catch out the usually wary Otters. I could hear them for a while afterwards crashing away through the dead long grass and frozen puddles by the Burn of Mar. One was much bigger than the other so they were probably a mother and cub.
