Whooper Swan, Loch Lomond NNR, Clyde

No, this is not an early arrival Whooper Swan! This is the Whooper which does not fancy the trip to Iceland so it just hangs about the Endrick Mouth area of Loch Lomond all year.

While visiting The Intersnaid Hotel,Loch Lomond for the second year running(the main reason for being there was to watch Osprey flying around the Loch.I happened upon a siteing of an adult Whooper Swan (Cygnus Cygnus ) at aprox 12.45pm on Mon 23rd July while taking the ferry from Intersnaid Hotel to Tarbet I found a lone swan halfway to Tarbet on the Tarbet side that was quite distant I could see It had a yellow base to the bill.It was not possible to be sure which species it was.Anyway on my return journey at aprox 3.I5 I saw the swan closer and it was Whooper.Long necked with extensive yellow on the bill from the eye down to the nostrils.I thought this might be an interesting siteing for July.
