Bufflehead

(bucephala albeola)
The Bufflehead is a rare vagrant from North America. In the UK it is often considered to be an escapee but when they occur in locations like Shetland they are generally assumed to be the genuine article.
This bird was present on Shetland for a few weeks in Jan/Feb 2025. The photo was taken in the lee of Hugh's neighbour's house sheltering from the storm force winds. the bird was on the Loch of Hillwell.
