Joey "The Nail" Nardone is a tough South Philly boxing champion whose life is forever changed after being incarcerated for the accidental murder of a teenage girl, the casualty of a bar fight gone terribly wrong. Joey is released from prison, but the haunting memory of what put him there remains a constant fixture in his mind. Upon his prison release, Joey moves into a low rent apartment in a ran down Hispanic neighborhood. While living there he meets 14-year old Jesus Perez, an audacious whipping boy who endures regular beatings from his father and school bullies. Over time, Joey befriends Jesus and teaches him how to fight in order to defend himself. Meanwhile, Joey struggles to come to terms with his guilt from the murder and is constantly haunted by visions and daydreams of what took place that fateful night. Although fighting took away one precious life, Joey still finds a sense of comfort in boxing because it is the only thing in his life that has remained the same. Through his friendship with Jesus, Joey atones for his past by becoming his powerful mentor. Written by James Quattrochi
