Bristlecone Snag

White mountain, California, USA

The oldest trees in the world are the Bristle cone pines atop the High Sierra mountains in the USA. One particular example known as the Methuselah tree was an incredible 5000 years old. I say was I don't know if it still survives I have a nasty feeling a scientist killed it in an effort to determine its age, thats progress for you. These snags are undoubtedly younger but are twisted and sculpted by the extreme conditions and tend to look more dead than alive.

I love this composition! Such creative. Beautiful play of shadows and light on the tree trunks. BV

I love trees...especially ancient ones. I like the parallel of the twinned pairs of trees one inside the divide of the other. The green needles and azure sky add the living earth element to it and make this a wall hanger to me.

Methuselah is alive and well. The tree was cored to find the age (a technique that does not kill the tree).
