These carefully constructed stone wals criss-cross the fells in the lake district near Ambleside. The red bracken and watery sunlight paint an evocative Autumnal scene.

@ Steve: The holes are made by sheep wandering the moorlands, although the huge bolder idea sounds more interesting!

Wonderful gallery, but this one interests me the most, as I think I've seen this and always wondered what caused this hole (if its the same one, there was another identical hole in the wall on the opposite side of the path)... a huge boulder rolling down the hill? Lightning? Runaway sheep? Who knows!
