The Scots Pine islands in Slattadale at the edge of Loch Maree proved to be stunning when the sun breached the hill top horizon and ignited the canopy of the individual island pine trees. The gorgeous colour contrast of gold and blue reached its peak when the background hills and smallest of the trees remained in blue shadow courtesy of a clear overhead winter sky whilst the first rays of sunlight heated the super cooled surface of the loch and caused a layer of mist to rise off the surface which then backlit and turned gold as it drifted in front of the island.
