Sandstone Sculpture

Clashach Cove, Moray, Scotland

This small outcrop of sandstone is at the high tide mark at Clashach Cove and as such is subject to the unceasing impact of erosion from the sea and the grinding pebbles dragged across its surface. The resulting smooth rippled sandstone that has an almost organic quality to it. During the middle of summer the sun sets and rises into the north facing bays and with careful positioning the sun's incident and reflected light can be maximised to create an enhanced glow such that the sandstone burns like burnished gold.

Excellent colour with the late warm sunlight - which I imagine is quite late that far North
