Flakstad Gold

Flakstad, Lofoten, Norway

A truly remarkable scene began to unfold on this late evening in May with a very slowly sinking sun finally struggling beneath a layer of low cloud on the beach at Flakstad. A meandering stream has cut a deep channel through the sand and has snaked its way to the sea, whilst the setting sun strikes the cutting and turns it to a ribbon of burnished gold. Even the minerals leaching out of black rock have marbled the sand and added to the overall atractiveness of this sublime view.
