Winter Loch Eilein

Loch Eilean, Cairngorm, Scotland

Well I have looked back over my gallery and was surprised to find I hadn't added this winter shot taken last January.

Bitterly cold temperatures down to minus 20 degrees celcius combined with an even blanket of snow some 60cm deep made roads treacherous and in some cases impassable but of course undeniably beautiful at least to our intrepid group of photographers. This was just about the only unfrozen section of water and the stillness of the air gave rise to mirror reflections at the exit of the loch. I waited until the best cloud pattern I could find mustered itself overhead and the power of the sinking sun had diminished.

NEW!! Photographic workshops and masterclasses and the 2011 Transient Light Calendars are now available at TRANSIENT LIGHT

How did you miss this pretty capture... but I know what you mean. I'm finding some HDR shots I hadn't edited too, until now. Like Christmas... in this case, really like Christmas. Beautiful composition and scene Ian.
