Stormlight Shieldaig

Shieldaig, Torridon, Scotland

This wonderful viewpoint offers a magnificent view across Loch Shieldaig and towards the small village of the same name. Most of the morning had been overcast with heavy rolling skies and then it just went blacker still and a storm scythed its way across the water. I was about to hide my gear from the rain when a small opening allowed a beam of light to momentarily paint the isthmus and island with brilliant sunlight providing a spark of intense colour on the turquoise waters. It lasted just two exposures and then flickered out in a typically transient Scottish manner and refused to do anything more for the next two and a half hours.
