Grotto and Stone Circle

"The Grotto and Stone Circle were the last additions to the romantic landscape at Old Wardour.
The Grotto was built in about 1792, by Josiah Lane of Tisbury, a well-known local builder
of garden ornaments, who had built other grottos in the area.

"He was commissioned to create the artificial cave complete with dripping water,
fossils and ferns from brick, plaster and stones
from Old Wardour itself."
