"This bizarre piece of garden architecture now barely recognizable as the miniature 'Stone Circle' it was designed as,
can be found hidden in the trees behind the Ticket Office, to the north of the Grotto. It was created by moving the stones
of a 4,000-year-old stone circle from nearby Tisbury and adding two rustic alcoves which re-use decorative details from the castle
and fragments of stucco. Its aim was to simulate an ancient stone circle and to add a touch of prehistoric barbarism
to the new landscape. It is now almost lost among the rhododendron bushes at the end of a yew-lined terrace."
