From Castlerigg

Keswick, UK

One of the marvellous views from Castlerigg stone circle.
Although the place was full of tourists -- no reward for an 800-foot climb over five or so miles... -- we could see why the stones had been placed here.
From nowhere else in the Lakes, I think, can you see so many peaks at once....

This is me at Castlerigg, after our long climb...!

I can sympathise. In 1966,when my parents brought us to climb Skiddaw for the first time,we were staying at Stair. We walked and rode on a boat,to Keswick then climbed up to the Car Park, roughly 1,000ft up Skiddaw. There were a few choice words then,I can tell you.
