Edison "Standard" Model D Cylinder Phonograph

The Edison Standard Model "D" Phonograph was introduced by the Edison Company in October 1908. The player was priced at $20 and was equipped with a straight 10 panel metal horn. Weight: 20 lbs. The quarter sawn oak cabinet measures 13" x 9 x 11½" high. The upper works and motor are fitted to a hinged wooden frame that can be opened for inspection. This single spring motor has an unusual (push/pull button) and gear train from the mandrel to the feed screw incorporating a second ratio that halved the speed of the feed screw for playing 200 tpi Amberol cylinders. This model can play both 2 and 4 minute cylinders including wax and Blue Amberols (celluloid) depending on the reproducer type.
