Ceramic Chinese Foo Dog, 10 inches high

September 10, 2004. Yesterday, the weather in Greenwich Village was very humid and uncomfortable, so I stayed in my air conditioned apartment, cleaned up this Foo dog (also known as a Foo Lion that protects imperial households and temples) and took a photo of it for this gallery. It's early 18th century style (early Ching dynasty), but possibly could be a very good copy made at a later date.

Canon EOS 300D Digital Rebel

Good detail. You're fortunate to have him.

Those glazes are terrific colours Hubert. Now he's guarding your apartment, which to you is your imperial household... so his work goes on.

Nice. I suppose that is the expression I would have if I did not know if I was a lion or a dog.

Very colorful figure. The black background sets him off well.
