The NYU2031 Plan calls for the destruction of most of the mature trees in this image and the treasured LaGuardia Place Corner Garden for the construction of an inappropriate children's playground in a very heavy trafficked congested area and for the construction of new NYU high rise buildings. The children using these playgrounds will be caged in fences, like a zoo, steps away from moving automotive traffic, parked cars and congested sidewalks. This plan was developed by the NYU Administration and approved by the NYC government to the opposition and dismay of the Greenwich Village community and a major portion of the NYU faculty. The NYC Administration, NYU Law School faculty, Medical School faculty and School of Education faculty are a disgrace for not voting for or against the NYU2031 Plan with a reasoned statement of resolution to this devastating plan.
Now that the NYC government has approved this ill conceived plan, the Greenwich Village Society for Historical Preservation and the opposing NYU Faculty members are contracting legal aide to plead for an injunction on the plan. Mayor Bloomberg still has an option to veto the plan even though he had already endorsed a worse plan before the NYC Planning Commission, Land Use Committee and City Council approved a scaled down plan.
