By the way, the lady figure on the right originally sported a sword-handle in her hand NOT the torch she is holding now. The original unpainted limestone handle I found in the mud in the sub-basement broken in half in 1979. It was likely broken many years before by a painters' scaffold and dumped down there. The replacement was installed during a renovation in the 1990's and is not correct. I don't have a great photo of the stone, but a scan from an old masonry book clearly shows this entrance around 1930;
