This shows one of the earlier ships my father worked on, on the Rhein in the centre of Ludwigshafen. That was a regular destination, because of the demand from the vast BASF chemical complex for refined oil products. The area seen in the back is being redeveloped towards 2009 into a shopping and recreational centre reconnecting the twon centre with the river.
