Muzaffarabad Police occupy a prominent historical site. I turned up at the location and asked if I could photograph the historical monument. Initially, they took my business and ID card and said that it would be no problem. Five minutes later a police officer arrived and told me that they could not let me take photographs and that I was silly/naive for turning up without any kind of arrangement. I was told to go to the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) on the other side of the city to obtain permission. I drove to the said office only to find that the SP had not turned up for duty at 10am. I was directed to another office and then another. This went for a long time and eventually I realised that I had been sent on a 'wild-goose chase'; I was not going to be allowed to photograph the historical monument. I abandonend the idea and left Muzaffarabad.
Shame on the government of AJK, the Tourism dept. and the Police for hiding away this important historical monument and not allowing public access to it. Shame on Muzaffarabad Police for being very unco-operative and sending me to offices all over the city. Historical buildings are the property and assest of the nation and should be on display to the public without hinderance.
