Despite the over worn cliche, Mantas really are "Gentle Giants". 12 feet (4 meters) or more in wing span they are filter feeders. They like bubbles (which terrify sharks) and to be touched by divers. Touching them is now strictly prohibited by the Mexican government. Like most pelagics, they are disappearing from the Indo-Pacific region, but seem to be holding on in these remote, but closely protected Mexican waters. There is a remora attached to the underside, and a Clarion Angelfish cleaning parasites from the Manta. The Clarion Angelfish is about 1 foot (1/3 meter) in length.
