Day before Valentines Day, a great concert based loosely on JJ Johnsons compositions. Outstanding piano by Harold Mabern and drumming by Joe Farnsworth were the highlights of the evening, with Trombonist Steve Davis, Trumpeter Josh Bruncau, Saxaphonist Scott Mullett, and Bassist Nat Reeves rounding out the sextet and contributing fine moments. A near-capacity crowd was on hand at the Vermont Jazz Center on the coldest night of the last twenty years. Some of the crowd came from as far away as Boston, Burlington, and Southern Connecticut.
