At iso 800 could have been posted with no NR. Instead I used Intensity 4; Sharpening 5 in Capture NX2 which effectively left sharpness alone and reduced just a smidge of noise grain beneath the desk. I could also have done this selectively, restricted to under the desk.

Essentially Nikon was right on in making iso800 a usuable top iso without processing.
