Nikon D600 and D7000 Focus Tests

This is a simple test anybody can do. The three bottles are arranged at a 45deg angle, right bottle is forward of center, left bottle is rear of center. I used on of my fastest lens (narrow f1.8 aperture)on the two cameras. When focus is correct the center bottle is clearly in focus and the other two clearly out of focus. Moreover the pattern of the mat also should be in focus on a plane with the center bottle.

The D600 full-frame DSLR is a factory refurb unit. One might hope that in checking out the refurb, the factory would check to make sure the focus was accurate. Such proved to be the case here, as focus was dead-on with no adjustment necessary.

The D7000 was bought new about 3 years ago, and quickly established a reputation for back-focusing (focusing BEHIND the target). I did this sort of test at that time and established a focus adjustment of -7 was necessary to get correct focus. The camera is still focused there, and as this brief comparison test shows, that is still the correct adjustment for this camera to be in focus.

The D600 shots are on the first line, the D7000 on the second.
