Cades Cove in the Great Smokey Mountains in Tennessee
Additional views from slides I took there in the fall of 1990. While we were eating our picnic lunch with many other travellers, we noticed two bear cubs fishing in the nearby stream. Gradually they came closer and closer until they decided that they liked the picnic food better. So they strolled up and climbed on a picnic table that was layed out so nicely with a red checkered table cloth and all that food in dishes and bowls. We all quickly backed off and let them eat their fill. When they left, we cleaned up the mess and left also. But we were still hungry.I tacked a couple of snap-shots I took to record the event, at the end of this gallery. Not the greatest quality but they serve the purpose. The Chimneys Picnic Area used to be a camp ground. I camped there as a teen-ager with my cousin one late spring. We were attacked by bears that time. They wanted our food, which they got. They spent all night destroying our camp while we kept a big enough fire going to discourage them from attacking us. A good experience for me.
