Small marshes'bird (L 19 cm). This elusive bird is heard much more often than it is seen. Little Crake occurs in a wide variety of wetlands or in marshlands with dense marshy vegetation: sedge, bulrush, and often flooded. The diet mainly consists of insects, but also includes seeds and other invertebrates. Migrant.
The species is most threatened by the widespread loss and degradation of wetlands through drainage, the construction of reservoirs and frequent burning of waterside vegetation. Hunting is an other problem.
