Chemla-Lamèch named some craters after notable people he knew from France.
This particular crater was named "Deseilligny", after Jules Alfred Pierrot Deseilligny.
In 1935 the IAU (International Astronomical Union) accepted this designation as No. 623. Current ID: 1501.
Jules Alfred Pierrot Deseilligny (1867-1918) was a French astronomer, physicist and selenographer.
