Willem Bilderdijk (1756 - 1831) was one of the great poets of the 19th century in the Netherlands.
He wrote (probably in 1807) the poem "De Starrenhemel" ("The Starry Heavens"), which was published in 1808 in his poetry collection "Najaarsbladen" ("Autumn leaves").
In it, very remarkably, a (folded) star map serves as an illustration.
On May 27, 2010, minor planet 12162 was named in honor of Bilderdijk.
