A remarkable story about the law in The Netherlands.
My human read this in the local paper. It happened in a Dutch town south of here, called Coevorden.
A human lady called Elisabeth lives there with three adopted galgo’s. Good looking dogs!
Elizabeth owns a house and some land. She build a fence around the yard so her galgo’s have their
own playing ground. One day last Summer a hare slipped into the compound.
The three dogs chased it of course, and caught it.
By coincidence an inspector of the Dutch ‘animal protection agency’ passed the house at this time
and witnessed how the dogs killed the hare. He wrote a report and… Elizabeth got a fine: 60 euro!
Yes, she did. Dutch law says that dogs are not allowed to ‘chase, catch, hurt or kill other animals’.
By the way: the same goes for cats: when a Dutch cat kills a bird her human may get a fine...
even when it happens in their own backyard.
Anyway, this week Elizabeth’s case was brought before a judge. And she was found guilty!
(although the judge also ruled that she doesn’t have to pay the fine, since it was ‘an accident’).
So what does this story tell us about me and my human…
I’m thinking about a few slow rabbits and some mice…
Have a thoughtful Thursday everybody
