Joop's Dog Log - Monday June 28

A blind human and her guide dog Lucky went to the Pathé Movie Theatre in Groningen yesterday.
Yes, this human, Anneke, is really blind, she can`t see a thing.
But she wanted to go to a movie anyway. So she bought a ticket for the movie `Troy`.
But then she was told that Lucky could not go in with her.
Dogs are not allowed in the movie theatre.
She got mad. But the movie theatre management said the rules are the rules.
So Anneke told the press and filed an official complaint.
That`s a good thing about Dutch humans, they are ready to fight for just about any good cause,
even for the right of a working dog to assist his blind human when she wants to 'see' a movie!
We`ll see -or hear- where this goes. I`ll keep you posted.

Only five more days till my Norwegian vacation.
Have a good week everybody!

You know, people should be able to go where they want to. If she is a paying customer, and her dog is a guide dog, then he should go wherever SHE is. I once saw a group of deaf people at a music concert. You know, people just want to go and have fun and mingle and see/hear things they don`t see/hear every day. I think it`s great.

`No dogs allowed` by José Feliciano comes to mind... I wonder what the outcome of this case will be. I vote for the woman with her dog.
And it would be sad if you didn`t come to the meet up. But I understand you and your human`s reasons. I wish you a wonderful Norwegian vacation anyway... I hope you`ll find some nice Norwegian dogladies. ;o)

Good luck to her. I wonder if they`re worried about what would happen if there was a fire and the cinema needed to be evacuated quickly?

Seems to me that a guide dog for a blind person ought to be able to go anywhere the blind person can go, including a theater! I hope she wins the fight. Fair is fair!
Boy, Joop, you must be getting excited. You packed yet, or are you saving that for the last minute?

I find it hard to believe that that kind of legislation isn``t already in place in Holland... you mean there`s something the U.S. is more enlightened about than you guys? LOL. Anyway -- you must be psyched about Holland going to the finals! I think the big game will be Holland vs. Greece and I`ll be very happy either way with that one.

"Joop, this reminded me of a brazilian blind lady who went to the Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro to watch a concert with her guide dog (a labrador). They didn´t want to let the dog in. Ironically, that dog had already been to many other music concerts with her blind human and it was proved the dog was far less `annoying` than people who insist on coughing and sneezing during the performances..." Hi Joop! Here in Rio it happened the same! A blind lady took her lab to the theater to watch a concert, and they told her the same. But she made a big noise around, called the police, the press, and afterwards she was able to stay there with her dog. And what is better... the following day she was on front page of the newspaper... Good for her!! Humans are so ignorant and stupid with rules, and they don`t realize that for every rule there will always be an exception.. Have a nice week little friend, and start packing for your trip!

Let those who are against guide dogs be blind for a week and see the RULES change! A guide dog should be allowed and I am pleased your blind friend wanted to go to the Movies...there is more to movies than meets the eye. Yes, keep us posted on the story here. Joop, looking good as always.

Very interesting... I don`t know what the rules are here about seeing eye dogs. I have seen them in all sorts of places, but I don`t know about theaters. Seems to me rules are made to be challenged... especially stupid ones.
Today I go see Farenheit 911. Do you think your humans are going to see this movie. I should laugh a lot but also be a lot more irritated and angry when it`s done. Strange we go to a movie we know is going to make us mad... I bet you smart dogs would never do a thing like that.

Speaking of movies, Joop, I wonder if Michael Moore`s movie "Fahrenheit 9/11" has been released in your country. If so, tell all the humans you know to go see it. In my opinion, he tells the truth about the whole Bush admin. and the Iraq situation. The good news is the movie is attratching a lot of attention over here!

I`m surprised! In the U.S. service dogs cannot be turned away by law. Maybe something good will come of all of this, and the Dutch humans will make sure everyone knows service dogs are not "pets" but rather working dogs with an important job to do, serving their humans.

yes, we would like to know "the rest of the story".. I too am surprised that it would happen in your country where even PET dogs get to ride on trains, and buses, and ferries.. and go in shops etc..

You look so concerned about this. I think the lady will win the right to go to the movies with her guide dog. Just because someone`s blind doesn`t mean they can`t enjoy the movie thru music and dialogue!

Interesting story. The Dutch sound like very cool people. My Mom`s father claims to have some Dutch ancestors somewhere down the line. Not very much by now, but you make her proud!

Give her a bark for me. I was chased out of the passenger section of a ferry while I was walking my human up in Washington. Yeah, I'm a service dog. My master would be lost without me! Bruiser.

Hey Joop, do you have black and white lashes??? VERY SWEET PHOTO and it matches so much to the story of blind Anneke. My tennis colleage Anneke is also a little bit blind....sorry, should take this serious. Adelante Dutch fighters for human's rights! Love from Dany at busy Blackville
