De Kei (The Rock)

Paterswolde

The Rock ('de Kei') is an ice age landmark in the center of town. It lies on the corner of Main Street (Hoofdweg)
and Burgemeester Legroweg, close to the house where the famous Dutch radio- and TV-weatherman lived:
Jan Pelleboer (1924-1992), who was one of the village men who claimed The Rock for Paterswolde,
and transported it to this location, on the final day of 1973.
Paterswolde has named a square after Pelleboer: 'Jan Pelleboerplein'. Until his untimely death in 1992
Jan Pelleboer also edited and published the town newspaper 'Dorpsklanken'.
