Joop's Dog Log - Thursday Mar 25

Saw something moving in the field.
Oh boy, I love sniffing and searching. I have a good nose.
And the smells get stronger every week. My tenth Spring is coming, no doubt about it.

Have you heard about the dogs of Amsterdam?
There's a big hard drugs problem (heroin and cocaine) in our main city.
Or rather: a big drugs dealers problem.
These dealers run a bad criminal scene in Amsterdam.
The police finally got some help catching them. From:.. dogs!
Not expensive police dogs, or fancy pedigree dogs,
just regular plain freelance dogs with good noses. They had some training, that`s all.
Special teams of these dogs with their humans now walk the streets of Amsterdam.
Soon as a drugs dog sniffs something suspicious on someone he comes across on the sidewalk,
he stops and points.
His human then immediately calls a cop on his cell phone. Bingo!
They've already caught a whole lot of drugs dealers this way in Amsterdam.
Other cities in my country now want to do follow this example.
What do you think?

I guess you mean harder `drugs` than what are already legal in the Netherlands? ;-) Yeah, I think dogs are great sniffers and should be used to help fight crime!! Unfortunately, the abusers of the system will find other ways to transport their goods (inside coffee grounds, where dogs can`t smell passed the coffee, or something of that nature), because humans are sneaky. Be glad you`re a dog!!!

Dogs are often used for drug details in the states. But just sniffing around on the streets... you`d better have a warrant! Americans protect their personal privacy with all their might. Joop, keep sharp! ;^) Paw from Luke.

I think its amazing that humans are finally recognizing that us doggies have better smelling skills than them, i am proud of being a part of the species that are helping a city become a safer place. And you do look handsome there, huh!

Gophers are rodents, but not members of the rat family: they are not any of these: ground squirrels, manmot nor rat.

Well, this one`s a little tricky for me, Joop. Personally speaking, I think drugs ought to be legal. Ought to be legal to use them and to sell them. Oh, not for kids! And there`s no doubt but that I am opposed to the criminal activity that so often accompanies drug sales, but maybe the crime lords would leave drugs alone if they couldn`t make so much money. Ah, `tis a tough one indeed, and I will say that yr country has come up with an unique manner of dealing with the problems. Dogs just rule, eh, Joop?

Ok Joop, we are coming to learn that job, can you please book a corresponding course for us? We are young, gifted and red....will soon learn that special lesson well ! Only one question left: does it than mean to become city-dogs? In the Güsterfields we only know victoms of too much beer and stuff like that....

Well, waldgeister, how about if where you live they train the dogs to find beer... and then instead of calling the police, you call your friends and have a party instead? The dog has a useful occupation, and all your friends are happy all the time. That way you can stay where you are :)

Some people want to have drug sniffer dogs to greet the high school students in the town across the river. Others feel it might create an unpleasant atmosphere.

Watch where your nose leads you, Joop! I got skunked last night and took off to the lake to wash off and bury myself in the sand and didn`t come home until this morning, and now my mom won`t let up on the couch. But I would love to work for humans!

In Utopia people won`t have such a need to abuse drugs because the unfair social situations will be ameliorated. I do believe in taking away the crime element to drugs, and I`d much rather know my streets were being patrolled by dogs than by gangs. That`s what I think.

Hmmmmm....I really have no opinion on the legalization of hard drugs, I would have to do a heck of a lot of research first. But, you look like you`re having fun, Joop. I think if I were you, and me, I would stay out of the big cities.

I think other countries should follow suit. Joop, you aren't planning a second job, are you?
