Founded in 1062 by the Almoravids from the Sahara, Marrakech is a large, vibrant city at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains, boasting a medina, numerous souks, old religious schools, palaces, mosques, kasbah, mellah and famous palm grove, in addition to a lively modern residential and business quarter. Our stay was somewhat disrupted because Tim was in a wheelchair at that point and simply couldn’t get around the narrow souks or navigate the long distances that had to be covered on foot. I did spend the day with a tour guide, but I know there is much more to see in Marrakech, so hope we can return in the future to enjoy it fully.
