The other side of the “Local Birds of Washington D.C.” call box, one of the most creative I’ve seen, with several birds found in DC painted on the front and back of the box itself and a list of local birds running down the many sides of the base, one section of which says, “Painted by the Design Team of The Washington Post Summer ’25.”

One of the many call boxes located around DC dating to as early as 1864. Some were in the shape of a house and used by residents to report a fire, while others, like this one, were used by police to check in.
