This particular call box was one of the most creative I’ve seen, with several birds found in DC painted on the front and back of the box itself and a list of local birds running down the many sides of the base, one section of which says, “Painted by the Design Team of The Washington Post Summer ’25.” I’ll post a picture of the other side of it next.

One of the many call boxes located around DC dating to as early as 1864. Some were in the shape of a house and used by residents to report a fire, while others, like this one, were used by police to check in.
