Getting ready for the race

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix IndyCar race took place on the streets around the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, August 23. Attending it in person would have been way too difficult and expensive, with some seats reportedly selling for $3,000 apiece, so we watched some of it on TV. I think it will take some time for the city to recover from the construction necessary to accommodate the event.

an excellent overview with lots to take in...Indy cars raced in Vancouver for 15 years, inspiring lots of opposition for the disruption and incredible noise...luckily the event was eventually cancelled..

A road race through the city just seems weird to me, and the cost of it all, including sheer disruption. But this shot certainly gives a view of what it was like!

What an incredible view with the U.S. Capitol standing proudly in the distance. It is pure magic. History and high-speed thrills colliding in the heart of D.C. Truely wonderful overview shot! V
